Continuing to set new standards of professionalism, 70 remodeling companies from across the United States were named winners at the 2014 Chrysalis Awards for Remodeling Excellence. The entries were judged on overall design, the creative use of space and materials, and the degree to which the project enhanced the original structure.
The Chrysalis Awards program, begun in 1994, recognizes the nation’s best work in 16 general categories of residential and commercial remodeling. The Chrysalis Awards are open to any professional remodeler and design professional in the United States.
We started with dated bathroom finishes, a very cut up floor plan, a 1980s’ oversized whirlpool tub, a small 1 piece shower stall and one vanity in the bath and one in the dressing room. This made the overall large space of this bathroom feel small and disjointed. We completely gutted this bathroom including the interior walls to open up the floor plan. The client had very specific finish details and material selections and provided plenty of input for the new design.
A new whirlpool tub set on a tile clad deck was installed. Removable custom wood panels allowed for access and service of the whirlpool plumbing through the front of the tub deck. These panels were custom matched to the vanity door style and finish. A 6′ vanity cabinet was installed. The customer selected 12X24 onyx tile, which was a common finish throughout the bathroom, continuing in the shower, along the tub deck and walls as the side and backsplash. The custom designed corner shower with glass walls added to the open feel of this bathroom. It included the convenience of a built in bench and wall niches.
“This was the first year they have entered the awards, and to take home top honors on the first attempt is impressive, ” says Ken Kanline, Director of the Awards.
