Modern Poolhouse | Gibsonia, PA
This modern suburban pool house was constructed for a young professional couple to complement their main residence. Key design elements include an open great room framed by an operational glass garage door that opens to the pool, a functional kitchenette, and an outdoor living and grilling space for year-round entertaining.
The existing home was more than 4,500 square feet, and the electric panel had no available capacity. So, the first thing was to upgrade the 200-amp service to a 400-amp electrical service and add a 200-amp panel in the new pool house. Gas and water lines were run to this structure, and we tapped into the existing sanitary lateral to complete the utility connections.
The neighborhood covenants require any accessory structure to match the existing house features and color scheme, and this pool house follows that requirement in every exterior detail. To begin the project, we poured a deep gray colored concrete slab and protected it throughout the construction process. Once the project was completed, we cleaned and polished this floor.
The pool house’s interior includes a full bathroom, a changing room, a storage room, and a wet bar. But the focal feature of this pool house is the ample entertaining space that doubles as the owner’s “Band Room.” It has a vaulted ceiling and a matte-black aluminum/glass garage door that opens to connect the band room to the pool deck area. Since the owner has a musical band, plenty of electrical wall and ceiling outlets for the band’s equipment were included in the electrical design. We also reinforced the ceiling for stage lighting. A mini split HVAC was installed for heating and cooling, and we complemented this with in-floor hydronic radiant heating to take the chill off the bare concrete floor in the cooler months.
The exterior seating area features an outdoor kitchen area with a built-in grill. There is infrared heating in the wood panel ceiling of this seating area and a large TV mounted to the wall. So, whether you are listening to the band, hanging at the pool or watching TV, this pool house completes this outdoor oasis with style.
