Prime 1 Builders is proud to once again sponsor Savor Pittsburgh – A Celebration of Cuisine. The event is a blend of food, cocktails and music and will be held on Thursday, August 27 at Stage AE on the Northshore.
Savor Pittsburgh is celebrating its 10th year, and this is the fourth consecutive year that Prime 1 Builders has been a sponsor. Culinary leaders from across Pittsburgh provide sweet and savory samplings of appetizers, entrees, desserts and cocktails while competing in THE Culinary Competition for the coveted “Dish of the Year” honors.
Last year, Savor Pittsburgh attracted more than 1,000 guests who sampled 35 different dishes.
100% of the proceeds from this event benefit the Magee-Womens Research Institute & Foundation and their fight to end premature births. Each year, more than 500,000 babies are born prematurely in the United States (about one per minute). Babies born prematurely are at a higher risk for chronic lung disease, deafness, blindness and learning disabilities.
Why Prime 1 Builders Is Involved.
After several years of showing her support for the event, Mary Anne Meade, Marketing Director for Prime 1 Builders, was asked to serve on the 2015 Host Committee. While she and Dan were fortunate enough not to need NICU care when their two children were born, they’ve had friends who have gone through that heart-wrenching experience.
“It’s amazing to see these tiny babies and recognize that 10 years ago, they would not have made it,” states Mary Anne. “Families have children that survived because of the research that has taken place at Magee.”
She continues, “But research takes lots of money, which is why I am involved.”
How the Money Is Used.
The money raised the last two years went toward purchasing remote-access video equipment. With this technology, grandparents who don’t live in the area or military parents stationed abroad can use their computer and see their baby 24/7.
“This year, the money raised will go toward educational literature that will guide families through the difficult decisions they are faced with,” explains Mary Anne.
